So, one more set of instructions to learn. At least this editor seems similar to Word. I don’t see any real advantages to Zoho Writer, at least for straight documents. Perhaps the Spreadsheets will be more useful. The endorsements on the Yahoodoc site seem to be mostly from people doing recreational activities–sports fantasy teams and the like.

I successfully entered my Blog as a favorite, added a book and Link to the Favorite Books page, and started a new Favorite–Chocolate. I had trouble matching the blue color of the Side Bar, so went wild and made the Chocolate page , well, chocolate.

We already have a working Wiki for our database trials. The disadvantage we have seen is that the date of the posting is not automatically added to the post, as it is in a Blog.
The SJPL Subject Guides are interesting, but why use a Wiki for this rather than having it be part of their Web page?
The YALSA site was interesting, but again the drawback is that there are no dates to show how current the information is. I also don’t care for the layout–looks too much like Wikipedia.

Back to work after a week where the low temperature was about 79 degrees. What fun to be able to add show to my Blog. ALMOST makes up for the fact that the interface has changed. I also had a comment to moderate. I accepted it!

Reading about Library 2.0. Some of this is the same old, same old.
Libraries should be “frequently updated and evaluated.” Although we don’t do this as often as we’d like, it is a guiding principle of our Customer Service. Yes, there’s lots more we could do to our OPAC, but the fact is we HAVE made changes as needed. We have chess club, programs, new AV formats.
Another quote: A certain amount of feet-dragging is sometimes necessary so that we don’t rush headlong into a pursuit full of reckless abandonment. It’s knowing when not to second guess yourself that is the trick. http://www.blyberg.net/2006/01/09/11-reasons-why-library-20-exists-and-matters/#comment-160
When a patron needs an answer, it’s up to us to get that answer AND evaluate the source from which it comes. If we can use new technology to get the answer, great. If the answer only comes through someone’s Blog, then it makes no difference that we found the answer–it still can’t be trusted.

“I blog in Spanish and English for different reasons. In English I blog to communicate my ideas and views, in Spanish, where for some unknown reason many more people comment, I write to learn. The collective intelligence of my commentators is greater than mine.”

An interesting quote from the State of Blogsphere report. The stats are interesting as well, especially showing the education and income levels of bloggers surveyes.
Quote on style of blogs;
Women tend to be more conversational in their blogging style, while men tend to be expert.
NOTE: This is how bloggers characterized themselves!
VERY SLOW getting into WordPress this afternoon. Each step takes precious minutes….
Using Technorati to search for Library 2.0–Putting the phrase in the Search box gives 5,289 posts, 761 blogs. the Blog Directory is not a very satisfying way to search for this topic. Using the Advanced Search gives 463 posts with tag of Library 2.0.
Using the Advanced Search option allows you to choose blogs, posts, tags. This page reminds me of how our patrons must feel when looking at some of our database pages for the first time. Yes, there is a Help button, but that leads to a place to add a question and two pages of FAQs.
Also, this is the first I have seen “Possibly related posts” added to my post. The post leads to what is essentially an ad for a rival service Disqus. To me, this is a negative. Why should anyone be allowed to put that on MY blog.???

Delicious
At first glance this seemed to be mostly full of technology, but when I started playing with tags, I found videos on giraffes and a whole sight of cats in sinks. (though none as cute as my daughter’s cat Bailey.)
Among the articles posted on CCLS23 Things account is the article about Basic competencies of a 2.0 Librarian. This is an interesting discussion about why learn these things when they can’t be done on Library Computers (I think they mean by patrons.) Also, reinforces the idea that Libraries have a place–providing reliable information, and that Computer Stores (!) provide the info of how to play on the Internet.
I doubt I’ll use this much.
This was the entry I thought I had lost. It was under Manage…..
And then I got into an endless loop that wouldn’t let me see the site. Among the things I found when I aimlessly clicked, was a place to buy an upgrade to this account, with a gift card attached!
It’s obviously time for lunch.

I learned one very frustating thing about this Blog. When I was so bold as to click on Visit Site, I lost the whole entry I had just written about Thing #12…..
Delicious seemed at first glance to be just about technology, but searching tags like giraffe gave me some good videos about giraffes, and cats brought me to a site of Cats in SInks, but none cuter than my friend Bailey.
Among the CCLS23 Things postings, I found the article Basic Competencies of a 2.0 Librarian relevant. It asks why learn these things when they aren’t available on public computers? Also, points out that libraries have a mission–to provide reliable information. Learning to use all these technologies is better left to Computer Stores.
I doubt I will use Delicious at this time. The tags are assigned by other users, so not necessarily any better than what a google search would turn up.
I will Publish this, and then look at the Site–so I don’t lose it again. I can always edit it later.

This is one I love. I could spend all day here, but other duties call. Again PLAY is the operative word. I marked someone as an interesting library, but then had trouble finding where the Interesting Libraries would be. (They are under Connections.)
My Library
Here’s a jigsaw puzzle of a picture. (First step is to have more pictures in my Pictures Folder.) This seems to be just the one picture–it is not interactive. It’s from http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/jigsaw.php
Ah, I see. I can buy the puzzle for $40.00!
